Review1999, 13(5): 3-7,14.Two difficulties in syntactic and semantic analysis for English-Chinese & Chinese-English machine translation are presented in this paper , which are syntactic disambiguity , and underlying semantic relations and structural meaning.

Review1999, 13(5): 8-14.The first problem we have met in source language analysis in a Chinese-English MT system is Chinese sentence tokenization , as in written Chinese there is no explicit word delimiter. Finding token boundaries for a character string will be often interlaced with syntactic parsing , or even with semantic relations. This paper presents an approach of combination of sentence tokenization and syntactic-semantic analysis. Instead of getting tokenized word string before sentence parsing , the tokenizing component is built into the parser , i. e. syntactic and semantic information could be used for recognizing words when necessary during parsing which is supported by a dictionary with descriptions for individual usage and a set of common rules.

Review1999, 13(5): 15-28.This paper introduces the deambiguity strategy of POS (Part Of Speech) in English analysis of E-to-J commercial machine translation system. The 29 types of POS ambiguity in English are summarized. And the author proposes the deambiguity rules based on the context analysis.

Review1999, 13(5): 29-35,64.This technical report , developed from the short presentation at‘1998 ICCIP , is concerned with the phases of Japanese generating module in our English-Japanese translation system. Its fundamental focus is on the following points after giving an overview of the system: 1. Grammatical filter mechanism , the fundamental idea when developing our generating module. 2. Postposition handling mechanism , the central issue when attempting to generate grammatical Japanese sentences. 3. Kernel sentences transformation , the way of transforming original trees into object trees. 4. Auxiliary handling mechanism , one of vitally important components when completing the transformation from P-tree to D-tree. 5. Negation handling mechanism , the toughest phenomenon when handling.

This thesis put forward an integrative knowledge representation which adapts to the effective computer storage and search. Then the practical application values are presented.

Review1999, 13(5): 44-51.It is hard for the existed single strategy machine translation approaches to solve all the problems in machine translation. In this paper ,we propose an interactive hybrid strategies machine translation approaches ,which is incorporated with rule-based parsing with multiple knowledge description ,analogy inference with heuristic search based on case translation memory ,statistic knowledge and some extend human-computer interaction. In which ,the featured case model base including various features is set up automatically based on the existed intelligent machine translation system. It is not only possible for it to use case-based heuristic analogy reasoning to produce translation result for same or similar sentence with a former translated sentence ,but also can use rule-based parsing to translate the sentences which are not similar to any model in case base. In addition ,when the knowledge is not sufficient to disambiguate the ambiguities in the current translated sentence ,it can use human interacive mode to guide the translation process ,so as to greatly enhance the translation speed and accuracy ,and made the translation system more practicable.

Review1999, 13(5): 52-57.From the experience of artificial and machine translation , this paper introduces the data warehouse and data mining technology to construct corpora , suggests a machine translation system that the accurate generation of text to be translated using a template technology combines with person translation under machine help ,useful in the translation and publication of English Dictionary into Chinese one. Results of the preliminary research have gotten better effect .
